Did you know that Warren County and some of our communities participate in the Climate Smart Communities Program? Some of them are even bronze certified! https://climatesmart.ny.gov/actions-certification/participating-communities/

What does that mean? The Climate Smart Communities Program is jointly sponsored by multiple New York State agencies that supports local efforts to meet the economic, social, and environmental challenges of climate change. The program offers leadership recognition, grants, and free technical assistance. Local governments participate by signing a voluntary pledge and using the CSC framework to guide progress toward creating attractive, healthy, and equitable places to live, work, and play. The program goals include:

  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
  • Building resilience to climate impacts
  • Saving taxpayer dollars
  • Increasing energy security and reliability
  • Improving public health and safety
  • Supporting a green innovation economy
  • Demonstrating leadership
