2025 Political Calendar

 

FEBRUARY / MARCH

February 1st: Certification of offices to be filled at 2025 General Election to be released

February 14th: Party Change deadline. Any changes to party enrollment after February 14 will not go into effect until 7 days after the Primary Election (NYS EL 5-304(3))

February 20th: Publication of Enrollment

February 25th: Petition (Designating) Circulation Begins

March 18th: FIRST day to circulate Opportunity to Ballot Petitions

March 31st-April 3rd: Acceptance Period for Filing Designating Petitions

 

APRIL / MAY

April 7th: LAST day to authorize, accept, or decline designations. 

April 10th: LAST day to file Opportunity to Ballot Petitions

April 11th: LAST day to fill a vacancy after a declination of designation

April 15th: LAST day to file an authorization of substitution after a declination of designation

April 15th: FIRST day to circulate independent petitions

May 1st: Certification of Primary Ballot by County Board of Elections

May 9th: Deadline to transmit ballots to eligible Military/UOCAVA/Special Federal voters for Primary

May 20th-27th: Acceptance Period for Filing Independent Petitions

May 30th: LAST day to accept or decline an independent nomination

 

JUNE / JULY / AUGUST

June 2nd: LAST day to fill a vacancy after a declination of an independent nomination

June 9th: LAST day to file a change of address with County Board of Elections prior to Primary Election

June 14th: LAST day to submit a Voter Registration with County Board of Elections prior to Primary Election

June 14th: LAST day for CBOE to receive absentee application by mail or online portal for Primary Election

June 14th: LAST day to receive an absentee application for Military/UOCAVA/Special Federal voters if NOT already registered 

June 14th-June 22nd: Early Voting for Primary Election

June 17th: LAST day to receive an absentee application for Military/UOCAVA/Special Federal voters if already registered 

June 23rd: LAST day to apply in person for absentee ballot for Primary Election

June 24th: LAST day to receive an absentee ballot in person OR to postmark Primary Election Ballot, must be received by CBOE no later than JULY 1

June 24th: PRIMARY ELECTION DAY

July 7th: Canvass of Primary Returns by CBOE

July 7th: Audit of Voting Systems for Primary by CBOE

July 14th: Recanvass of Primary Returns by CBOE

August 4th: Vacancies occurring AFTER this date will NOT be filled during the General Election in November

August 4th: Propositions and Referendums due to CBOE by local clerks

August 7th-13th: Dates for Judicial Conventions

 

SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER / NOVEMBER:

September 10th/11th: Certification of General Election ballot by SBOE and CBOE respectively

September 19th: Deadline to transmit ballots to eligible Military/UOCAVA/Special Federal voters for General Election

October 20th: LAST day to file a change of address with County Board of Elections prior to General Election

October 25th: LAST day to submit a Voter Registration with County Board of Elections prior to General Election

October 25th: LAST day for CBOE to receive absentee application by mail or online portal for General Election

October 25th: LAST day to receive an absentee application for Military/UOCAVA/Special Federal voters if NOT already registered 

October 25th-November 2nd: Early Voting for General Election

October 28th: LAST day to receive an absentee application for Military/UOCAVA/Special Federal voters if already registered 

November 3rd: LAST day to apply in person for absentee ballot for General Election

November 4th: LAST day to receive an absentee ballot in person OR to postmark General Election Ballot, must be received by CBOE no later than November 12th

November 4th: GENERAL ELECTION DAY

November 19th: Recanvass and Verifiable Audit of Voting systems for General Election

November 29th: Certification of Canvass from County Board of Elections due
