Warren County Health Services and local partners to distribute Narcan in Glens Falls, Warrensburg on Sept. 21

WARREN COUNTY, NY – Warren County Health Services has partnered with Adirondack Health Institute, Alliance for Positive Health and Hope & Healing Recovery Community and Outreach Center to hold a free Narcan training and distribution event on Thursday, September 21st, 2023 at locations in Glens Falls and Warrensburg. Narcan is a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, which have occurred in record high numbers in New York and around the U.S. in recent years.

Individuals who are struggling with opioid addiction or who have a loved one who is struggling with this addiction are encouraged to attend one of these events to receive a free Narcan rescue kit and training for its use. Those who attend will receive a free Narcan rescue kit, learn how to recognize an opioid overdose, learn how to administer nasal Narcan and learn what to expect and how to respond once Narcan has been administered.

‘We continue to see the devastating impact that opioids have on our community. Increased availability of Narcan, and offering training to those who would like to learn how to use it, can save lives and give those struggling with opioid addiction a chance to seek treatment to overcome their addiction,” explained Ginelle Jones, Warren County Director of Health Services.

These events will be held at:

  • Glens Falls – Warren-Washington Counties Community Action, 190 Maple Street, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • Warrensburg – Cumberland Farms, 3805 Main Street, 1 p.m.-5 p.m.

Naloxone, sold under the brand name Narcan, is a safe medication that can save someone’s life by reversing the effects of an opioid overdose. Naloxone only works on opioids, such as heroin, prescription pain medications and fentanyl, but it is safe to use even if opioids are not present. 911 should always be called after administering Naloxone. New York State’s Good Samaritan Law allows people to call 911 without fear of arrest if they are having a drug overdose that requires emergency medical care or if they witness someone overdosing.

This distribution event has been organized by a public-private partnership that includes Warren County Health Services, Adirondack Health Institute, Alliance for Positive Health and Hope & Healing Recovery Community and Outreach Center. In addition, Adirondack Health Institute has installed Narcan rescue kits around Warren County that are available for free to the public 24/7. Those locations can be found here.
