Tuesday and Wednesday of this week were Warren County Highway Employee Safety Days, featuring hours of training, education and fun competitions for our local highway crews!
Organized by the Town Highway Superintendents Association of Warren County and Warren County Self Insurance Department, the two-day event is an effort to raise awareness to safety issues and provide training for highway department workers across the county. This year it was held at Painted Pony Rodeo in Lake Luzerne.
All local highway departments in the county attended, including Warren County Department of Public Works, Parks & Rec, Airport and Buildings and Grounds crews, as well as employees from town DPWs and Glens Falls DPW.
It's held each spring over two days, and includes seminars, skills competitions, educational displays and vendor displays as well as prizes and raffles for workers who took part in competitions and seminars. Chainsaw safety, excavation safety, culvert replacement best practices and vehicle/equipment best practices were among the topics.
There were also displays from Warren County Public Health and Warren County Office of Emergency Services, focusing on risks of the job such as tick-borne illnesses, skin cancer, extreme heat and cold and severe weather threats.
NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, State Police, Washington County DPW, Adirondack Employee Assistance Program, Glens Falls Hospital and CSEA were among those who helped out as well. Thanks to everyone who made this another educational and fun event!
