Warren County Department of Workforce Development has begun accepting applications for its Summer Youth Employment Program, which provides jobs for youth between the ages of 14 and 20 and helps local businesses and organizations get through the busy summer season.

The program, which is funded by federal grants, provides work experience and training to qualified youth from Warren County to help them develop skills they need to succeed in the workforce. There are family income guidelines to be met by applicants in order to qualify for the program.

The youth who are hired are assigned to work at a variety of worksites -- including non-profit organizations, private businesses and municipal facilities-- around Warren County for about 8 weeks starting in late June.

Worksites for 2026 are being finalized, but in recent years participants have been placed with farms, town highway departments, parks and recreation departments, school districts, campgrounds, and a variety of other businesses. In addition to employment experience, participants are provided with employment counseling, financial literacy assistance and educational content to ensure success at their summer job.

Youth who are enrolled in the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) for 2026 will earn $16.00 per hour.

Pre-application can be done through this link, and applications for prospective workers are due by May 29, 2026. Warren County’s Youth Employment Counselor, Emily Lee, will contact all youth who submit an eligibility application to let them know their eligibility status as well as the next steps in the process.  Those who have questions, or are interested in applying, can email Emily at [email protected].

Businesses that are interested in serving as a worksite for the Summer Youth Employment Program can also email Emily at [email protected] for additional information.

Youth Employment Counselor Emily Lee stated. “This program is life-changing for participants. We watch youth gain skills, confidence, and experience in a short amount of time and the network and tools they acquire helps launch them into a bright future.”

Warrensburg Supervisor Kevin Geraghty, Chairman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, said: “The Summer Youth Employment Program provides valuable work experience for our youth while also helping local businesses and organizations find staff for the summer. The Town of Warrensburg has hired numerous participants through this program over the years and seen great success for both employer and the youth employee.”

The grant funding for Summer Youth Employment Program is administered by the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and overseen by the Warren County Department of Workforce Development.
