Warren County's 9/11 observance remembered 25 years ago, thanked a local hero and looked forward on Friday at Warren County Municipal Center.
State Conservation Officer Stephen Raymond died from cancer caused by his service at Ground Zero in New York City in 2001, and on Friday Warren County presented his family with signs that will adorn Warren County Route 35 in the town of Lake George in his memory.
The New York State Legislature approved a request by the Town of Lake George and Warren County to name the bridge at Exit 23 of the Northway, which carries County Route 35 across the highway, in Officer Raymond's memory.
Officer Raymond spent much of his career in Warren County, and lived in Thurman. His family was presented with replicas of the sign that will stand in his memory.
DEC Commissioner Amanda Lefton, law enforcement from around the region, NYS Senator Dan Stec, NYS Assemblyman Matt Simpson, NYS Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner, Warren County Board of Supervisors Chairman Kevin Geraghty, Lake George Supervisor Vincent Crocitto and Raymond's boss and former DEC LT. Robert Henke, addressed the crowd to commemorate the occasion before a large crowd.
With a bright blue, almost cloudless sky, the day was much like 9/11/01. We will never forget.
