Nearly three-quarters of the child safety seats inspected in 2023 were found to be improperly installed. Are you sure that the one used by your child is installed correctly?
Local residents can get their child’s seat checked for free Monday, May 19 at a safety event organized by Warren County Health Services at West Glens Falls Fire Department’s station at 33 Luzerne Road in Queensbury.
Trained technicians from the Health Services office will also be able to check whether your seat has been recalled, and will have a limited number of seats to distribute to those in need.
Warren County Health Services launched a Child Passenger Safety Program thanks to a New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) grant in fall of 2024, after fielding inquiries from county residents who were seeking car seat inspections. With help from Washington County Public Health, two Warren County public health staff received technician training, and seats were acquired for distribution.
Said Jignashah Shah, the Warren County Health Services Program Manager overseeing the program: “This program has been a necessity in our community for a long time. Last year we had the opportunity to add this program to our growing list of Public Health services. It has built on our presence as an agency in the community by fostering correct use of car seats, which are important for the safety of our children."
No registration is required for this event. Those with questions can call Warren County Health Services at 518-761-6580.
