safetydays25
Highway workers from around Warren County gathered for two days of safety training and competitions this week as part of the annual Warren County Highway Employee Safety Days.

Organized by the Town Highway Superintendents Association of Warren County and Warren County Self Insurance Department, the event is designed to raise awareness to safety issues and provide training for highway department workers across the county. This year it was held at Painted Pony Rodeo in Lake Luzerne.

All highway departments in the county attended, including Warren County Department of Public Works, Warren County Parks & Rec and Buildings and Grounds crews, employees from town DPWs and Glens Falls DPW and Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District staff.

It's held each spring over two days going back to 2018, and includes seminars, skills competitions, educational displays and vendor displays as well as prizes and raffles for workers who took part in competitions and seminars. Chainsaw safety, roadside ditch management and vehicle/equipment best practices were among the topics.

There were also educational displays from Warren County Public Health, Warren County Office of Emergency Services, focusing on risks of the job such as tick-borne illnesses, skin cancer, extreme heat and cold and severe weather threats.

WSWHE BOCES, Needham Risk Management, Adirondack Employee Assistance Program and CSEA were among those who helped out as well. Thanks to everyone who helped make this another fun and educational safety-focused event.
