Warren County Municipal Center, other county facilities to close early on Monday, April 8
Facilities operated by Warren County will close at 12 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024 to allow county employees to get home safely and avoid traffic issues stemming from the solar eclipse.
Warren County Municipal Center, Human Services Building, and Department of Public Works facilities will close early to allow county staff to get off roads before the eclipse. Many local schools and municipal offices are either closing early or not opening on Monday, April 8, out of similar concerns.
Public safety public personnel will remain on duty, and staff who may be needed for emergency response will be available as needed.
Said Warren County Administrator John Taflan: “We have many employees who live in the northern part of Warren County, and we want to make sure they can get home and not be stuck in traffic delays that stem from the eclipse. Based on hotel and short-term home rental reservations, there are indications that thousands of people are headed to the Adirondacks to view the eclipse, and that could lead to major traffic problems around our region.”
The northwestern corner of Warren County is among the area that will experience a total eclipse, while a partial eclipse will occur in the remainder of the county. The eclipse is expected to begin around 3:20 p.m., with totality around 3:25 p.m.
New York State officials are forecasting large volumes of traffic on the Northway, Route 9, Route 28, Route 149 and other routes that head to areas north and east where a total solar eclipse will occur. Residents are asked to avoid non-essential travel in the hours immediately before and after the eclipse.
