Help our election system – sign up to be a poll worker

Warren County needs more staff for election sites

WARREN COUNTY, NY -- Poll workers are the bedrock of our election system, folks who ensure that those who venture out to vote on Election Day can cast their ballot when they arrive at a polling place.

As we approach a busy election season, Warren County Board of Elections has a need for more individuals to serve as poll workers.

You can help make a difference in your community, and get paid, by signing up for a poll worker position!

There are a few requirements: Applicants in Warren County must live in Warren County, be registered to vote in Warren County and be at least 17 years of age. (Note that 17-year-olds must have parental consent and be an enrolled student.)

These positions are paid $240 for 16 hours of work on Election Day, a rate of $120 for 8 hours of work for Early Voting duties, and $50 for a three-hour training session. Those who sign up can also select a polling place of their choice for Election Day if available.

“We expect heavy voter turnout for our next Presidential Election, and it will be important for our Board of Elections to be fully staffed and trained to make sure that all voters have the opportunity to cast their ballot,” said Kevin Geraghty, Chairman of the Warren County Board of Supervisors. “We would like to see Warren County residents of all ages step up to help our Board of Elections at the polls.”

What do poll workers do? Here are their duties:

  • Prepare the polling place for voting
  • Set up voting equipment
  • Sign in voters, and assist them if requested
  • Demonstrate voting procedures to voters
  • Sanitize voting equipment and close polling place after voting ends
  • Canvass the polls when voting ends and report the results

It’s easy to sign up. Those who are interested can do so online at www.warrencountyny.gov/BOE/Technology.

They can also call Warren County Board of Elections at 518-761-7676 or 518-761-7677 to sign up, or to learn more about these positions.
